Intrauterine Fluid Collections that May Mimic a Gestational Sac
A variety of conditions causing fluid collections within uterine cavity may, in the appropriate clinical setting mimic a GS. Intrauterine fluid collections lack the double ring margin of an intrauterine pregnancy, and in many of the causes listed below will lack a trophoiblastic reaction.
• Endometrial bleeding
• Retained products of conception
• Incomplete abortion
• Pseudogestational sac of ectopic pregnancy
• Endometrial carcinoma
• Cervical stenosis/cervical obstruction due to a carcima or previous surgery.
